Hi, I’m Humayun.
I’m 17 years old, currently studying Theology, Geography and Design & Technology, while also trying to balance triathlon training, gym sessions, mountain biking, my love for motorsport, travelling and eating.
Not cooking. Eating.
That sentence probably says quite a lot about me. I love too many things, apparently.
I’ve always been someone who enjoys a challenge, especially if it involves sport, speed, discipline, or doing something slightly questionable for a good reason.
I love the adrenaline, trying new things, and seeing how far I can push myself before not only others start questioning my sanity, but me included.
I’m also really interested in the emergency services, armed forces and careers built around service, discipline and purpose. In the future, I hope to join either the police or the military, because I’ve always liked the idea of serving something bigger than myself.
COVID hit when I was in Year 6. Safe to say, it felt like a gap year.
School was closed, I was home-bound, glued to my PlayStation, and absolutely destroying my eyes. It took three days before I got bored and got a revision book out on my own free will.
Yes, that was impressive at the time for 11-year-old me.
Safe to say, it paid off. I went on to start at Cottesmore School in Year 7, which was a massive change from what I had grown up with.
Before that, I was at state school, so boarding opened up a completely different world. Suddenly I was meeting people from all kinds of backgrounds, trying sports I had barely heard of, and getting access to facilities that honestly felt slightly ridiculous and over the top at the time.
It was a big adjustment, but it helped me grow up quickly, become more independent, and take opportunities more seriously.
That journey later carried on when I was accepted into Eton College in Year 9, where I have now been for three years and have completed my GCSEs.
Being there has challenged me in every way, academically, personally and through sport. But it has also given me opportunities that I’m extremely grateful for.
For me, sport, school, cadets, fundraising and future career ambitions all connect.
They are all about discipline, resilience, service and pushing yourself when it would be easier not to.
Whether I end up in the police, the military, sport, or doing something completely unexpected, I know I want to keep challenging myself and doing things that have a purpose behind them.
For now, the focus is pretty simple.
Train hard, work myself to the max and keep at it.
